Applications Available For THE Coolest Sports Photography Event of the Year

Sports Shooter Academy VII  to be Held April 7-10, 2010

SSA VII will be four full days, April 7 – 10, 2010 and will be based in Orange County, CA. The workshop features a full schedule of real sports events that participants will be covering including college baseball, track & field, softball, volleyball, water polo and tennis plus sessions involving the La Habra Boxing Club  and professional beach volleyball players from the AVP tour.

To attend, download and complete the application form. The form includes a short essay section, which is a key component, there have been cases in the past where people have been accepted into the workshop based on a strong essay. A 15-20 image portfolio is also a requirement so the workshop faculty can assess applicants’ level and

photographic skills. The application gallery does not have to be completely sports images and should contain their best work — as any portfolio should.

If the applicant is a SportsShooter.com member, they can simply create a “Hidden Gallery” through their members page and include the gallery URL on the application form. If an applicant is not a SportsShooter.com member, they can include the URL of a personal website or on-line gallery that contains their work.

Nikon is the primary sponsor of Sports Shooter Academy VII, through their funding FULL TIME COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS will attend the workshop TUITION – FREE.

Working photographers tuition for Sports Shooter Academy VII is $600 for SportsShooter.com members in good standing and $650 for non-SportsShooter.com members.

There are a limited number of slots in this workshop, deadline for submitting applications is JANUARY 8, 2010.

Once all of the available spots in the workshop are filled, a waiting list will be started and all openings will be filled from that list.

Think Tank Photo and Samy’s Camera are also sponsors of Sports Shooter Academy. Both of these wonderful companies have been involved with the Sports Shooter Academy since the beginning.

Sports Shooter Academy VII will begin Wednesday morning April 10 with a day-long sessions of speakers and classes with topics including use of remote cameras and location portrait lighting.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday participants will be out in the field covering sports under the guidance of the workshop instructors and staff who will be available to help answer questions, offer tips, suggestions and on the spot critiques.

Each evening, participants will edit their work, getting help with selection, cropping and offering critical analysis of their work. These evening sessions are often the highlight for many of the workshop participants. The days’ best work will be shown to the entire workshop and the best photos will be selected by the faculty. Awards will be given out to the best photo by a student and working photographer.

Nikon will be providing loaner equipment for workshop participants to use while covering events. At past workshops, Nikon has had a wide variety of equipment available including their latest professional cameras plus lenses from fisheyes to super telephotos. Participants will have the opportunity to use remote cameras at some of the workshop events and equipment from Nikon can be used in these situations.

A special room rate of $99 a night has been arranged for workshop participants at our headquarters hotel, which is just minutes from the John Wayne-Orange County Airport and the University of California, Irvine.
